Does Bacopa monnieri improve memory performance in older persons? Results of a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Bacopa monnieri Linn. for improvement of memory performance in healthy older persons. STUDY DESIGN: This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: The trial took place in Lismore, NSW, Australia between February and July 2005. Ninety-eight (98) healthy participants over 55 years of age were recruited from the general population. INTERVENTIONS: Participants were randomized to receive an extract of Bacopa monnieri called BacoMind(TM) (Natural Remedies Pvt. Ltd.), 300 mg/day, or an identical placebo. Following screening, neuropsychologic and subjective memory assessments were performed at baseline and at 12 weeks. OUTCOME MEASURES: Audioverbal and visual memory performance were measured by the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (AVLT), the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (CFT), and the Reitan Trail Making Test (TMT). Subjective memory performance was measured by the Memory Complaint Questionnaire (MAC-Q). RESULTS: One hundred and thirty-six (136) subjects volunteered; 103 met entry criteria, 98 commenced, and 81 completed the trial. Bacopa significantly improved verbal learning, memory acquisition, and delayed recall as measured by the AVLT: trial a4 (p = 0.000), trial a5 (p = 0.016); trial a6 (p = 0.000); trial a7 (delayed recall) (p = 0.001); total learning (p = 0.011); and retroactive interference (p = 0.048). CFT, MAC-Q, and TMT scores improved but group differences were not significant. Bacopa versus placebo caused gastrointestinal tract (GIT) side-effects. CONCLUSIONS: Bacopa significantly improved memory acquisition and retention in healthy older Australians. This concurs with previous findings and traditional use. Bacopa caused GIT side-effects of increased stool frequency, abdominal cramps, and nausea.

That would depend upon why you are asking that of me dilbert. Are you asking
me to dance with you, or are you asking me to kick your ass? Actually that's
a trick question because either way you get your ass kicked.

This is exactly the exchange this cross-posting "aioe.org" impostor wanted
to create. Since you were the one that gobbled his bait and hook to confront
me "qis.net", ...you earned this (one time only) very mild scolding. Next
time look for the difference in ISP's, or... just MYOB.

I use news.datemas.de but I'm not sure if they still allow new users. It
was free but required subsription

As a backup for wjen they go rarely go down for maintenance, I also have an
account setup with nntp.aioe.org

Both allow for posting.

If ya want free, try http://www.eternal-september.org/. It does only text (no binaries),
but when I used it, rarely had problems.
Otherwise, grey always mentions how good (& cheap) the forte agent newsfeeds are (APN)...

David, It has taken this long for me to get my bill, get upset, and do
something. Your thoughtfulness for the post above is much appreciated.

For those who care, I got the same $20 off per month on the Sunday
Ticket, and by going to autopay, I got the free HD ($10 off) too. David,
that saved me $240. Money I don't have to spend this year.

I have a smartphone but opted not to drive everyone around me nuts
watching a game. That is why they have DVRs. So, I might have gotten the
ST to Go but did not push.

Love to all,

Jets the first team to go 19-0 and a SB.

some times i dont get it. football is supposed to be about hitting
and making people feel the pain. fand love and laud brutal hitters.
always... could you really say he was a dirty player or just trying to
cause the most impact that the rules would allow ??? i read in
interview with him and he said somthing along the lines of he got
attention in high school because he hit hard... then he got attention
in college because he hit hard... then he got to the nfl because he
hit hard... after all of that, he had bad things said about him

i dont know if they have been the most dirty in general. i think a
lot of that had to do with the way they invented their bad-ass image.
i started watching the nfl in 1980 when i was just starting high
school, so i cant say what the raiders were like in the 1970's. in
the 80's 90's and now they dont seem to be any more dirty than other
teams. of all the watching i did, the team IMHO that did the most to
endanger the health and careers of other players was denver during the
elway years. they type of blocking that their offensive line did as a
matter of every down practice looked a lot worse to me than anything i
saw the radiers do. you had a real chance on every play of a guy
getting his knee blown out. also... a lot of the riader greats like
art shell and howie long were all very clean players. because of
their bad ass rep, other teams would also always be happy to return
the brutality. in the 80's the jets d would play like animals when
they met the raders. in the 1982 playoff game the jets had with the
raiders, the entire right sider of the lets line joe fields, dan
alexander and marvin powell beat the living shit out of the raiders
defensive line. the poor little raiders were throwing tantrums.

Tripura gives more power to tribal council
http://igovernment.in/site/tripura-gives-more-power-tribal-council-38081

Seven more departments have been given to the Tripura Tribal Areas
Autonomous District Council as part of efforts to provide more
autonomy to tribals
Published on 07/28/2010

Agartala: Tripura has decided to hand over seven more departments to
the tribal autonomous district council as part of efforts to provide
more autonomy to tribals.

"Earlier we had given five departments to the Tripura Tribal Areas
Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Now we have decided to give
seven more to the autonomous body," Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister
Aghore Debbarma said, reports IANS.

"The Left Front government has been committed to all round socio-
economic development of tribals," he said. Tribals constitute one
third of Tripura's 3.5 million populations.

The politically important TTAADC was formed under the Sixth Schedule
of the Indian Constitution in 1985.

The TTAADC is the most powerful self-governing body among the existing
16 autonomous district councils (ADCs) in northeast India facilitating
the socio-economic development of tribals, who make up 27 per cent of
the region's total population of around 40 million.

Of the 16 ADCs, six are in Manipur, three each in Assam, Meghalaya and
Mizoram and one in Tripura.

In Manipur, tribals have been protesting for the past few months
demanding more power to the six tribal autonomous district councils in
the northeastern state.

Debbarma said the 12 departments handed over to the TTAADC in Tripura
include education, health, agriculture, fisheries, animal resource
development, social welfare, social forestry, cultural affairs,
cooperative (partial) and panchayat (partial).

The ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front stormed
back to power in the 30-seat TTAADC last month for the second
consecutive term.

Tribals have been on a series of movements, including road blockades,
in Manipur since April 14 demanding more financial and administrative
powers for the six ADCs.

The Manipur government conducted elections to the six ADCs in May
despite protests from tribals. The ruling Congress won in all six.

The varsity academic council on Monday took the decision to reserve
one seat for transgenders in all the 52 post-graduate courses it
offers from the academic year starting this October, reports IANS.

Though the varsity application form for 2009-10 had a column 'others'
apart from 'male' and 'female', there was no reservation of the seats
for the transgenders, he said.

He said many transgenders were studying in undergraduate courses by
declaring themselves either as male or female.

"I am thrilled that our identity has been recognised and I will apply
for my post graduation in English," Mangala, a transgender said.

The university has announced that separate rest rooms will be provided
for them and also warned of strict action against those ragging or
harassing them.

Dev said provisions of anti-ragging laws will be used to punish
students found ragging the transgenders attending post-graduate
courses.

If the transgender students need counselling, help will be taken from
the varsity's psychology department, the Vice Chancellor said

He said he would write to the state government to consider reserving
seats for transgenders at the under-graduate level also.

The Bangalore-based National Law School of India University plans to
include 'others' in its application for admission from the next
academic year, according to its vice chancellor R Venkata Rao.
